Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu, Dean of the Marine Economics and Logistics Department at BVU Received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Industry and Trade

After many years of dedication, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu - Chairman of Vietnam Logistics Human Resource Development Association, Dean of the Marine Economics - Logistics Department at the University of Ba Ria - Vung Tau (BVU) was awarded by the Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Industry and Trade by the Minister of Industry and Trade in recognition of outstanding contributions to the development of the logistics industry in Vietnam from 2020 - 2021.

Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu is a leading expert amd one of the great contributors to Vietnam's logistics industry. In 2012, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu, as Director of the Vietnam Logistics Research and Development Institute (VLI), was invited by the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province (BR-VT) to participate in the development of Logistics development projects of the province, presiding over the development of the "Developing human resources for logistics services in BR-VT province to 2020 Project” and the "Project on the overall development planning of logistics industry in BR-VT province in the period of 2014-2020 with orientation towards 2030", and also joined the research team to survey the logistics of European and Asian countries with developed logistics backgrounds such as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Japan, etc.

Before becoming the Director of VLI, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu held the position of General Director of the Joint Ventures between Vietnam (VIETRANS/VOSA) and the US (SSA), UCRAINA (BLASCO) in the field of oceanic shipping (seaport operation, shipping and llogistics). In his 20 years as General Director, he has connected business cooperation with many shipping lines, seaports, logistics companies in the world. By 2017, realizing that the potential for logistics development in the southern region and especially in BR-VT is promising, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu decided to accept an invitation from the Board of Directors of Ba Ria - Vung Tau University to join the university and develop the logistics industry at BVU.

On becoming a member of BVU in 2017, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu and his colleagues led in opening the logistics industry and supply chain management. With the foundation of a multi-disciplinary university, on the basis of quality assurance conditions and reference to logistics training programs from universities in the world's leading logistics development countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Australia, Singapore, BVU was allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to introduce the Logistics and Supply Chain Management major at the university level and was one of the first universities in Vietnam to open this major.

After nearly 5 years working at BVU, advancing through many professional positions, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu has presided over the development of logistics industry and supply chain management major that resulted the number of students is enrolled increasing. The rate of graduates able to find work immediately once graduating is at 100%.

In order to meet the increasing demand for learning and promote its strengths in training and research, BVU established a new Department of Marine Economics - Logistics to develop the university's key disciplines, making an important contribution to the supply of high-quality human resources for the Southern Key Economic Zone and the whole country. The Faculty consisted of a team of experts, scientists, and experienced lecturers, organizes training courses in the following disciplines: Logistics and supply chain management, Port Management and Organization, Import and Export, International Freight Forwarding; Economy, organization and management of sea transportation, Technology and Digitization in Logistics. BVU is the first university in Vietnam to have this particular department.

After many years of work and research in the field of logistics, realizing the shortage of human resources as well as the need to improve and update training programs, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu and like-minded partners formed the Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association to further develop human resources in this industry to meet the requirements of international economic integration. After nearly 2 years of preparation and procedures with the authorities, on April 30, 2021, the Minister of Home Affairs issued the decision to establish the Vietnam Logistics Human Resource Development Association with nearly 300 members coming from universities, colleges, research institutes, companies who are experts in the field of Logistics. At the first assembly, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu was elected to be the President of the Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association for the 2021 – 2024 term.

With his contributions and dedication to the logistics industry, in December 2021, Dr. Mai Xuan Thieu was awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of Industry and Trade for his outstanding contributions to the development of the logistics industry in Vietnam in the period of 2020 - 2021.

BVU is enrolling students in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, including 4 majors: Logistics and supply chain management, Port Management and Organization, Import and Export, International Freight Forwarding; Economy, organization and management of sea transportation, Technology and Digitization in Logistics.
