NHG in collaboration with National Geographic Learning (USA) to organize a workshop on “Getting real about the language learning classroom”

On October 29th, K-12 Academic Department, Nguyen Hoang Group (NHG) cooperated with National Geographic Learning publisher (Boston, USA) to organize a workshop on “Getting real about the language learning classroom” in order to improve academic knowledge for over 100 English teachers in K-12 system, as well as to show them how to apply technology effectively in training.

Speakers of the program were Dr. Nguyen Chi Hieu (Stanford University) – a well-known educational advisor and 2 members of National Geographic Learning (NatGeo Learning), including: Mr. Ian Martin – Head of Global Marketing team and Ms. Julie Hwang – Marketing Manager for Academic Services.

Innovative trend in teaching

With the mission of “Bringing the world to the classroom and the classroom to life”, National Geographic Learning publisher has been building a rich sources of learning materials integrated into audio-visual technology, helping students and teachers have true experiences. According to Mr. Ian Martin, “the rich sources of data will stimulate students’ thinking deeper to apply their knowledge into real situations”.

For instance, when talking about the declining number of individuals of bees around the world, instead of showing students boring data and make them analyze it, teachers can use NatGeo’s resources to give examples about fascinating food or useful products in daily life would disappear as a consequence of this phenomenon. By that way, students will have a variety of perspectives, analyze the problem more in depth and come up with new, more unique solutions.

Through the abundant and diverse information resources of NatGeo Learning, each class in the Nguyen Hoang education system will be a place that learners love to explore, and teachers constantly learns and shares knowledge.

The life-long learners

In the same point of view with NatGeo Learning, Dr. Nguyen Chi Hieu said that knowledge is a minor part for learners to work and contribute in life. In order to integrate into the world or become global citizens, Vietnamese students and even teachers need to improve constantly their self-study and thinking skills – the 2 main abilities of life-long learners.

In the workshop, Ms. Julie Hwang presented about 10 skills that recruiters expect in staff, in which team-work skill, including abilities to presenting ideas and acquire others’ ideas, plays a key role for working in multi-cultural environment. By experience of teaching English for both students and teachers in different ages, she introduced valuable data resources and showed how to apply technology in teaching, helping get real about language classrooms, maximize reading, writing and self-study abilities of learners.

This was the second training session of English teachers in NHG with specialists from NatGeo Learning in 2019-2020 academic year. “With all teachers, passion and love for students, NHG and National Geographic Learning will together bring innovative education for all children in Vietnam” – shared by Dr. Do Manh Cuong, Deputy CEO, K-12 academic affairs.
