Hoa Sen University holds a National Forum: The 2019 Vietnam Tourism Human Resources

Within the HCMCtourism week, for the first time, Hoa Sen University (HSU) in incorporation with HCMC Department of Tourism organizes the Vietnam Tourism Human Resources Forum, on April 12th, 2019 at Reunification Hall – Indepedence Palace, HCMC.

The forum is expected to attract about 300 delegates who are leaders of central governments, officers of relevant ministries, board, and provincial department of tourism, as well as leading experts from governmental agencies, businesses, local and international universities, colleges, training institutions, press and media.

The objective of the 2019 Forum is to create an opportunity for government offices, agencies, businesses and training institutes to meet, exchange and identify solutions to develop the quality of human resource training for Vietnamese Tourism industry. From the situation analysis, comprehensive evaluation and the demand of high-quality human resources, together with lessons learned from experiences of domestic and foreign tourism training institutions, the forum expects to draw a proposal to relevant Ministries, departments and people committee of HCMC on the human resources and innovation of human resource training in tourism.

Topics for discussion at the 2019 Forum revolve around three main topics: Training to meet the needs of businesses on tourism personnel; Effective application of new technologies in training human resources in tourism; Forming the policies in tourism human resource development.

According to a research of Associate Professor, Dr. Ha Ngoc Oanh from HSU, Vietnam ranked 6th in 10 fastest growing destinations of the world in 2017. Total contribution to GDP of Vietnam Tourism industry, including directly, indirectly and public investment are 584,884 billion VND (13.9% of GDP); in which, direct contribution of Vietnamese Tourism to GDP is 279,277 billion VND (6.6% GDP). In order to promote these important achievements, human resources must be a priority factor to focus in development.

Currently, there are 346 tourism training institutions at all levels from the primarily technical skills to university level. However, the industry still has shortcomings in organizing training and developing tourism human resources.

Catching the movement trend in the fast-growing service industry in Vietnam and worldwide, HSU faculty of tourism has a mission to provide learners with knowledge and skills to become the global citizens. HSU faculty of tourism also creates the best environment to promote the conversion process of intellect, culture, society and leaners effectively.

According to the employment survey of HSU’s graduates, the job rate of students in Tourism and Hospitality field (from the year of 2011 graduation until presence) is about 95%. Many of them are currently working at 4-star or 5-star hotels, prestigious travel companies, local and international airlines. Others continue their study to a higher level of at domestic or foreign universities; or even start their own business.
