90% of Nguyen Hoang Group's students enjoy studying online

04/25/2020

All schools of Nguyen Hoang Group (NHG) continue to maintain and develop online communication and online learning methods.

These methods will continue to be maintained, even after the Covid-19 epidemic is over and students return to school. “This online communication method will still be implemented to help students study at home, to update with parents about students’ learning process, to connect parents with schools. Not only in meeting between parents and schools, parents can also join in their children’s daily learning and connect with teachers to have better control over learning process”, Dr. Do Manh Cuong, Deputy CEO of NHG shared.

Keeping the connection between family - school - community

During the period “stop going to school, not stop learning” to control the epidemic, schools from kindergarten to grade 12 (K-12) of NHG’s educational system such as iSchool, UK Academy, SNA, etc., still ensure the quality of students’ learning through following school’s schedule with 100% online teaching.

Students learn almost all subjects in the curriculum except extracurricular activities, practice, experiments through Microsoft Office 365 toolkit and other tools such as Skype, iPortal, ManageBac, etc. According to the preliminary survey, parents and students of the system’s schools positively responded towards online learning program in the past few months.

Particularly, 90% of students can attend online class, at most 100% and at least 80% fully participate. According to schools’ reports and teachers' evaluation, students mastered the lesson quite well and opened a good direction to maintain online learning in the future.

In terms of organizing online classes, schools proactively adjusted the program, arranged specific schedules for each class and informed parents and students. NHG K-12 teachers also interact with students anytime, anywhere, with higher working capacity.

After class, teachers design games or multiple choice tests (on Microsoft Form) to keep track on students' understanding and adjust for following lessons; instantly mark, return tests and support students through other applications such as Facebook, Zalo, Messenger. In terms of the curriculum, so far nearly 100% of subjects have been properly integrated into the curriculum so that students do not feel pressured.

From important subjects such as Math, Literature/Vietnamese, English to subjects with interesting social knowledge such as History, Geography, Science; and even aptitude-focused subjects like Music, Fine Arts, Physical Education, STEM, Value - Life skills are also integrated through challenges and experiences.

Make effective use of school’s time

In particular, the iSchool International Integration School system highlighted the service learning model which was clearly shown during the period of 100% online training, for example: holding a painting contest called "Staying home but drawing", successfully preparing Nano silver dry hand sanitizer qualified with the World Health Organizations standards, producing bilingual videos to share about Covid-19 preventative measures, etc.
"Introducing Vietnamese traditional Tet culture to international friends through the Skype application", "White pollution - situation and solutions" project, etc.

In particular, to fully update about learning progress to parents during remote learning period, International Schools of North America (SNA) successfully organized online meetings for all middle grades’ parents and teachers.
The purpose of this meeting still retains the characteristics of assessing students’ learning process, but students have more right to discuss and give their opinions than the traditional way. Online meeting is available all day, can be logged at any time, so parents have enough time to learn more about their children's academic progress, without having to race against time. Besides, SNA teachers regularly keep in touch with students via email or ManageBac.

Schools enhance interaction between teachers and parents and students

Ms. Erica Arce - school welfare specialist - provided some psychological resources to help parents and students manage anxiety, stress and adjust daily habits when experiencing online learning due to the epidemic. “Nguyen Hoang expects that next year, teachers will have to work harder so in addition to teaching in classroom, teachers also assign homework and readings, assess on them so parents can see the interaction between teachers and students every day.

It is a part of helping students build self-study skills, manage time at home and  be more mature”- Dr. Do Manh Cuong shared.

If possible, they can participate in other online courses in Vietnam, as well as in the world, and by that way, they can expand their understanding and actively study abroad with program appropriate for their needs. Thus, school’s time will be used more effectively for meeting and educational activities between teachers and students.
