SNA teachers to experience "The Authentic Teacher" training course
17 teachers from International Schools of North America (SNA) have had an unforgettable experience in a recent course named "The Authentic Teacher" on January 26th to 28th, which took place at Thien Binh Meditation Center, Dong Nai Province.
The course hold by NHG Department of Education was led by 3 experts, Dr. Vu Quang Tuyen – Lecturer in Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Physics, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Le Minh Ha, MA - Head of Linguistics Section, English Department, HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Le Quang Vu – Lawyer, Deputy of Van phong Luat su Nguoi ngheo – a law office for the poor in HCMC.
A result achieved by a research group of Teach For America Organization (America) has indicated what teachers who gain lots of achievements and admiration from students have in common is that they, in any difficult situations, live and practice a certain principles of great leaders. According to the result, it's neither the programs nor the facilities, but the teachers themselves that determine the transformation in the students, which proves the importance of the key for teachers to become "the authentic teachers".
On that theory basis, the speakers have helped the teachers who attended the course visualize the foundations for an authentic teacher – an authentic leader:
The wholeness, which is the respect and commitment to keep your words (of what you approve of, what is expected from you, the standards you follow and the principles of community you choose from);
The truthfulness and consistency in what you do, which are expressed through individuals’ basic values; broadening your relations beyond the world of yourself – setting your life goals towards the community, helping students recognize the importance of creating values and of “living a life bigger than yourself”.
Identifying yourself as the factor: You take responsibility for your own choices and you are the cause of all outcomes; understanding that Education is Liberation: Education opens human minds and initiates new things.
Enlightening teachers about these factors, the speakers proceeded to instruct them on how to find, to choose and to pursue the vocation for being a real teacher, that is to explore and create future, to commit and devote to future generations.
Dr. Do Manh Cuong, NHG's Permanent member of Education Council, Academic Director has shared on behalf of NHG Board of Directors: “As Jean-Jacques Rousseau – the philosopher of the Age of Enlightenment, author of a very famous book on the nature of education and human “Emilé, or On Education” once said that “being a human” is the most important job, the root of all occupations. Thus, teachers need to better themselves so as to become leaders that help students use their knowledge to grow and to become the good. That is the most essential point and the origin of this course.”
Held for teachers from NHG Education System for the very first time, “The Authentic Teacher” has left them with a very profound impression. “The course helps us discover ourselves and realize that we’ve been limited too much in thinking and behaviors. It helps us let go of barriers, open our minds and be happy in every day following the vocation for being a teacher.” said an SNA teacher.
It is intended that the course will be offered to teachers, lecturers of other members in NHG Education System in a near future.
