HSU gains AUN-QA accreditation

Hoa Sen University (HSU) officially has two training programs accredited according to AUN standards, including English language and hotel administration programs.

Dr. Phan Thi Viet Nam, head of HSU Quality Assurance and Testing Department, said: “This assessment has brought opportunities for HSU in general and 2 faculties, in particular, to be matched with international standard quality. Therefore, HSU really can integrate into the overall ASEAN’s environment of university quality accreditation. This is also an opportunity for HSU to once again affirm their reputation with stakeholders, bringing benefits to the university and students”.

Dr. Phan Thi Viet Nam also said that some standards of the English language and hotel administration major program were evaluated by AUN - QA team with the "more than expected" results level. Equivalent to level 5/7 of the AUN assessment scale is the program description of the hotel administration program; a description of the program and methods of teaching and learning of the English language program.

With this result, it is an encouragement and a leap for the school to implement quality improvement, create a basis for further evaluation of the next programs to build a development roadmap for the training program of international standards.

In 2016, HSU is admitted as an associating member of AUN-QA and aims to evaluate programs under this standard. In 2017, HSU plans to carry out self-assessment according to the standard set of 11 criteria of AUN-QA and registers for official evaluation of the training program with AUN-QA in August 2017: Customer administration hotel and English language industry.

From September 2018 to February 2019, the programs carried out the internal self-assessment of the English language and hotel administration programs. The internal assessment team conducted surveys and assessments according to the official assessment process of AUN-QA with the following activities: listening to reports from the subjects, studying documented evidence, interviewing related subject agencies (including department leader, SAR group, lecturers of subjects, students, support staff, alumni, businesses), field and observations at the head office for external assessment training programs according to the standard of AUN-QA.

AUN-QA set of standards was issued in 2004 by the ASEAN University Network with the aim of promoting the quality assurance process at universities in the region and aimed at joint work and credit information from qualified programs between schools within the network. AUN-QA's set of standards includes 11 standards including the following: expected academic results; program description; program structure and content; methods of teaching and learning; student assessment; quality of lecturers; quality of staff support; student quality; student support activities; infrastructure and equipment; quality improvement; and output.
